The Highway 9 Safety Project Receives Environmental Award
The Colorado State Hwy 9 Safety Project was recently awarded the Environmental Excellence Award by the Colorado Department of Transportation. Representatives from the project, including the Citizens for a Safe Hwy 9 Committee, county commissioners, and others, were presented with the award by CDOT Executive Director Don Hunt at an awards ceremony in Denver last week, as reported by the Grand Gazette.
The CO State Hwy 9 Safety Project was approved for funding through the RAMP program during the summer of last year after an intensive and successful grassroots campaign to raise over $9 million. While rights-of-way acquisitions have taken longer than expected, bids will be sought later this year and CDOT is planning on having a final contract in place by late November, 2014. Construction is expected to begin during the summer of 2015 and continue over a 2-year construction period.
