Highway 9 Groundbreaking!
At long last, the CO State Hwy 9 Safety Project got underway this spring with an official kick-off and groundbreaking ceremony at the Grand and Summit County line this past week. Though a long time coming, a committed group of stakeholders and a supportive public will finally see the fruits of their labors as 5 underpasses and 2 overpasses, the first of their kind in the state, will finally be built.
Long considered an especially dangerous section of highway for both motorists and wildlife, the wildlife crossings, fencing, shoulder widening and re-alignment will make CO State Hwy 9 a lot safer for future generations.
After contractor bidding was completed last fall, Kirkland Construction won the bid and the project was able to move forward with permitting. Construction began earlier this spring, and is expected to continue for 2 seasons.
