Project Healing Waters

PHWFF Patriot Award to Mike Oros!

PHWFF-group

For the past 3 years, Blue Valley Ranch has hosted annual fly fishing tournaments for Project Healing Waters, a not-for-profit program that “assists in the physical and emotional rehabilitation of disabled active duty military personnel and veterans through fly fishing and fly tying education and outings”.  This past weekend, a group of soldiers and volunteers gathered once again on the Lower Blue River for some good food, good company, and great fishing.

Every year, Project Healing Waters recognizes one or more individuals with the Patriot Award, their highest level of recognition for the sustained support of the program’s mission and activities.  This past weekend, the Patriot Award was bestowed upon one of Blue Valley Ranch’s longtime employees, Mike Oros, for his selfless dedication and untiring sacrifices of time and effort!   In 2010 he planned, coordinated and raised funds for the first trip to Blue Valley.  In 2011, he organized two events, expanded the program to neighboring ranches, identified and invited local wounded veterans, and served as a consultant to other local organizations wishing to host an event.   The Ranch is proud of his efforts, and will continue to support Project Healing Waters with his help.

Mike was presented the award on Saturday evening by Jim Williams, one of the Project Healing Waters program leaders from Fort Carson.

This year, 22 active duty soldiers and local vets and a host of volunteers took part in the 3-day event. Nothing like a day on the water to soothe the soul!
